Shelter Journal 6/20/13

Corinna!! [Petfinder link]. Lovely as always, and her fur has really grown back in. She is gorgeous. She had some zoomies and then, as usual, settled in and just wanted belly rubs. I took her on a short walk too.

Lana! [Petfinder link]. I had her run and play in the yard for about 15 minutes then we went on a walk. Girl is always so full of energy. She also has a new shelter photo!

Bubba! His card said he was incredibly sweet and wanted to be in your lap. He mouthed my hand twice on the way to the yard out of pure excitement and happy to be out of the kennel, leaned against my legs as I was walking, and in the yard was very pushy and made me uncomfortable at first with his invasion of my personal space, always pushing on my legs. When I walked he would press his nose against the outside of my knees. After running and getting the edge off his energy the real him started to emerge and yes, he was very sweet! Any uncomfortable feeling I had at first vanished. He loved chasing toys, chewing them, and loved being petted and getting belly rubs and rolling around on his back. Can never judge a dog on first impressions!

Latifa! [Petfinder link]. I had Latifa out on May 30th. Nobody has had her out since, poor girl!! It's been TWENTY DAYS. I made a note on her card that she hadn't been out in so long and to please get her out more often. We'll see if that helps. Even though she hadn't been out in nearly 3 weeks she was awesome. Pulls hard on leash still, and in the yard she lost her mind in excitement and had lots of zoomies at first. I noticed her hind legs seem sore, and she is very hocky (her knees come together and toes point outward) which is hard on the hips, and of course kennel floors are concrete. Not soft. She would sit for me, and had a blast running around.

Bella! [Petfinder link]. Bella had not been out since June 6th, and I had her out on June 4th. She wasn't nearly as jumpy as she had been on the 4th. She ran around all crazy, chased toys, wouldn't sit still to be brushed much and she's shedding a lot. She is also fine one moment and the next can be easily startled or scared and will cower and takes a moment to bounce back. Sensitive girl.

While playing with Bella I saw my friend from church, the one coming to meet Sugar. He was about 45 minutes early! I'd planned to spend time with Buster in his kennel and then get Sugar, but put Bella back and got Sugar so he could meet her. I put her in the yard, then went to get a staff member as I didn't know if a staff member had to be present for our interaction. I came back and sent him to sign in, and he came back and into the yard. Sugar greeted him happily, and didn't jump up at all! I was so proud of her. They played, they snuggled, and when his wife showed up Sugar greeted her with equal happiness and didn't jump up. They all got to play and cuddle while I talked about and showed the training we've been working on. The volunteer who has taken Sugar to events, M, came at about 3:00. Sugar recognized her and did jump a little but M said she does let Sugar jump upon initial greeting. We all talked for about 20 minutes then had a caravan to their house. Sugar was kept on leash for a tour of the yard and house. When the crate was set up she went right in and laid down, and as we continued chatting she fell asleep and M and I left. I'm am so happy to have found a foster home with Sugar, and they say that currently there is "strong potential" to adopt her.
